My life has been full and rich, a grand mix of tears and laughter... God has been kind and gentle with me from before I can remember. The gift of writing is just one of many opportunities he has given me to reflect his glory and to bring a ray of light into other people’s lives. By his grace I am indeed "a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season." (Psalm 1:3)
What have I done in life? Everything from being a minister’s wife, teacher, musician, writer, and encourager, to horses, building houses, tree farming and making maple syrup - all of which has been helpful fodder for writing fiction. My "Passion" is God, loving people and writing. My favorite books are The Bible, Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, and I listen to Classical music.
I do have a wonderful family. A little weird, perhaps, but our three children and eight grandchildren remind us that there is life beyond the making of books.
Younger son Lee, wife Heidi, and crew of kids. They built a timber-frame house out of trees cut and milled on our tree farm in Vermont. They are off the power grid and make solar electricity. Their "furnace" is a massive, stone fireplace that they stoke only twice a day. Keeps them cozy all winter. Their water comes from an uphill spring. Their farm consists of chickens, ducks, two horses, and honey bees. These people know how to work! Lee, with help from the boys, installs solar systems in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Our favorite daughter Rachel looking her best! But see normal photo, too. The mother of three and wife of Dr. Dale Kuehne (see book cover), she is a very important person in many people's lives - including our own. Rachel loves to cook and entertain, is a skilled cake decorator, and takes daily walks with Briscoe, their champion Rhodesian Ridgeback dog.
Older son Dr. Eric, daughter April, and wife Sue Beth. Eric is a research landscape ecologist, but that has nothing to do with making a house site look better. It's more like the Theory and Application of Scaling Science in Forestry, and he works at the Northern Research Station in Rhinelander WI. He has not written a book, but he has had a hand in nearly 100 articles. That's as good as a book. Eric loves snowmobiling and thus loves winter. Sue Beth would rather have summer when she can garden. She's the landscape person!
